Can EV batteries be recycled?

Yes! An EV battery can be recycled in one of two ways. Some companies are taking the used batteries out of EVs and repurposing them for other uses. This is because as an EV battery gets older it may lose some capacity (i.e. range). While that may make it undesirable for continued use in a car, it could be used for something like a battery backup system for a house or business.

Other companies are working on recycling batteries by harvesting the materials in the battery itself and making new batteries. This can be well over 95% efficient in recovering materials needed for producing a new EV battery.
